Your Town Story ("we", "us", "our") operates the This Is Our Town website and related services (the "Platform"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information.

We are committed to complying with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK GDPR.

2. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

  • Account information: Name, email address, and password;
  • Video content: Videos you upload, including embedded metadata (EXIF data, GPS coordinates, timestamps);
  • Location data: Geographic coordinates you provide or that are extracted from uploaded photos/videos;
  • Sticker requests: Delivery address if you request physical sticker delivery;
  • Communications: Messages you send to us.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Device information (browser type, OS, device type);
  • Usage data (pages visited, features used, timestamps);
  • IP address (used for security and approximate geolocation);
  • Cookies (see Section 7).

3. How We Use Your Information

  • Operate and maintain the Platform;
  • Process and moderate uploaded content;
  • Generate and deliver QR code stickers;
  • Display your videos on the public map;
  • Communicate with you about your account;
  • Detect and prevent fraud and abuse;
  • Analyse usage to improve the Platform;
  • Comply with legal obligations.

We will NOT sell your personal information to third parties, send unsolicited marketing without your consent, or build advertising profiles.

4. Information Sharing

Videos you upload and their associated locations are publicly accessible once approved. Your display name is visible alongside your content.

We share information with trusted service providers (video hosting, cloud infrastructure, email) who are contractually bound to use your information only as we specify.

5. Data Retention

  • Account data: retained for the duration of your account, plus 30 days after deletion;
  • Video content: retained until you delete it or we remove it;
  • Sticker delivery addresses: retained for 90 days after delivery;
  • Usage logs: retained for 12 months;
  • Moderation records: retained for 24 months for audit purposes.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you;
  • Request correction of inaccurate information;
  • Request erasure of your personal data ("right to be forgotten");
  • Data portability;
  • Withdraw consent at any time;
  • Complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) or your local data protection authority.

7. Cookies

We use essential and functional cookies only. We do NOT use advertising or tracking cookies.

8. Data Security

We implement encryption in transit (TLS/HTTPS), encryption at rest for sensitive data, access controls, and regular security reviews. However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure.

9. Children's Privacy

The Platform is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16.
